St. John's Hall was a welcome cool place for Farmworkers to escape the heat, yesterday afternoon, Friday, 3 July.

Some  arrived early to find some relief from the intense sun and heat, and the doors opened in welcome. Inside, the tables and chairs were already set out for the meal.  There was chilled juice, a dinner with salad and bread rolls, and a dessert to follow.  Behind the scenes, the preparation had been done well in advance by many familiar helpers.  Some neat kitchen choreography was taking place too - it looked like a rehearsed routine! And, in the Hall, the first arrivals were being served immediately.  I noticed the quiet, organized space, where gentle, respectful, and considerate support was available.  On the one side of the Hall, items of clothing, toiletries and some packages of food items were set out for workers to select according to needs.

Clearly, there are a lot of people working consistently and always showing up, to make this Mission to Farmworkers run successfully:  volunteers, local donors of food and clothing, farmworkers' support representatives, and of course the chef who prepares the meal.
