Prayer is at the centre of the spiritual life of a Christian. It is about connecting and communicating with God.  There are as many ways of praying as there are individuals. Our personalities and life experiences influence how we pray.  Each week the AFS shares a new and different prayer resource for your reflection.

A Prayer for the Fires at CFB Wainwright
Gracious and loving God,
We pray for all those affected by the fires at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright. We remember those who have died, asking that they rest in your eternal peace, and we pray for those who have been injured and for all who grieve, that they may know your comfort and healing.
We give heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary work of the Canadian Armed Forces, and for the courage, dedication and professionalism of all who have worked to protect lives and support those in danger. We pray for their safety and strength, and for their families who share in the demands of their service.
We give thanks also for chaplains  firefighters, first responders and all who have offered help and support from across Canada. Bless their generosity and compassion, and sustain all who continue to serve.
In this time of uncertainty, be a refuge for those who are afraid, comfort those who mourn, and bring hope and healing to all affected. May we be united in compassion and strengthened by our care for one another.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our light.
Amen.

Oct 20 prayer for Synod

For Synod Delegates, Staff and Leaders
O Holy One, guide all our synod delegates,
That those called to serve in these responsibilities may be men and women living a holy life, seeking to be in your will, able to overcome prejudices, examining issues with care, and that the decisions of Synod may be to the building up of your church and to your glory.
May we be truly unified as one under Christ.
For A Church Alive To The Lord
O God, we get so caught up with the programs, with the buildings, with raising the finances, with restructuring and with endless sheets of paper.
Forgive us when we make these things our priority and ignore your presence.
May our priority be to live Christ-like lives and as we look to you in prayer may our words and deeds be a witness to your glory. Amen.

You of the Great Breathing In:
           Aahh! We praise you.
You of the Great Breathing Out:
           Yes! We thank you.
You who swirl us in your interstellar dust:
           Alleluia! We glorify you!
You who well up your ocean currents in us:
           behold, we serve you.
Hand of all the world's great migrations:
           Holy One, we trust you.
You who move in threads beneath the roots:
           Beloved, we reach for you.
You who fruit forth in a million varieties:
           we feast on your grace.
You who spark the Life Force in all things:
           we listen for your voice.
You who speak “Let there be light”:

Prayer of Thanksgiving - 5 October

Heavenly Father, I come before you today with a heart full of gratitude. Thank you for your countless blessings and your unwavering love. Thank you for the gift of life, for the air I breathe, and for the strength you give me each day. Your grace and mercy sustain me, and I am deeply grateful for your presence in my life.
Thank you for my family, friends, and the community you have surrounded me with. Thank you for providing for my needs and for guiding me with your wisdom. Even in times of trial, I thank you for the lessons and the growth that come from trusting in you.
Lord, may I never take your blessings for granted. Help me to remain mindful of your goodness and to share your love and kindness with others. I praise your name and give thanks for all that you are and all that you do.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. 

Prayers for  Day of Truth and Reconciliation - 30 September

Merciful God, you call us to loving relationship with one another.
Be with us now as we seek to heal old wounds and find joy again in this relationship.
Replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh.
Give us the gifts of honesty and openness, and fill us with your healing power and grace.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Creator, on this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we all come before you to present the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people of Canada. We honour the memory of the victims who suffered under the yoke of abuse over many generations. We come with humility and respect to gather under the banner of your love and forgiveness. Lord Jesus, as you have reconciled each of your children with the Creator, we ask you to make us agents of peace and healing to one another. You have come so that all may have life and life in abundance. Therefore, we ask that you bless the Indigenous people with all the resources necessary for all to enjoy a healthy and abundant life as your heart desires. We pray today that you will heal and repair the irreparable as we move forward in this process of reconciliation. We keep our eyes fixed on you for healing. We also implore you to guide our leaders so that they may hear your voice and lead us on the path of unity so that we may be a strong people. Lord, we pray that your kindness and mercy will be renewed each day and that your Spirit be poured out upon our nation from sea to sea to sea. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Dignity

Our baptismal pledge to “respect the dignity of every human being” means, at the very least, to listen to one another. Alongside our listening, we must also work for what we can do on behalf of the least, and the last, and the lowly – the anguished multitudes of our own country and our world – to redress the injustice, poverty, and unconscionable suffering which is their daily bread. We Pray

.....World peace seems impossible, God. Economic peace. Political peace. Psychological peace. It's all pretty hard. But today I'm praying I will find ways to live at peace with those around me. And I pray that my peace-making in my small circle will have influence in circles beyond. May we all make every effort to live at peace with everyone. A Short Prayer for Patience
Lord, grant me patience for today to navigate any challenges I encounter. With You by my side, nothing is impossible. I pray for Your Holy Spirit to fill me with grace and patience, so I may end the day with my head held high. I entrust all to You, Lord. Amen

 
A Prayer of Trust in God’s Will
O God, early in the morning I cry to You.
Help me to pray and to concentrate my thoughts on You; 
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness, but with You there is light.

A PRAYER FOR THE PARISH
O God, our heavenly Father, bestow upon our parish the rich blessings of your loving kindness; that we may prove ourselves a people of your favour and glad to do your will. Make us alive to all the opportunities and responsibilities of our time. Keep us open to all who need our love and fellowship and inspire us with a vision of a world won for Jesus our Lord.
